May 21st, 2011 Around 17:30 hrs a neighbor and a passerby came running into Station 50 reporting that a vehicle had lost control on New Middletown Rd and flipped over. They informed firefighters that at least one person was still trapped in the vehicle. Squad 50 radioed Fireboard and asked for the township entrapment dispatch. As Squad 50 arrived on scene it found one car overturned, off the road way, with the driver still entrapped. The vehicle had been traveling down New Middletown Rd when it lost control and launched off an embankment. The vehicle was sent over 100ft in the air before striking a tree causing it to flip. Squad 50 worked to stabilize the vehicle and free the driver. Units switched to a defensive attack. TS-50, under the command of 50-13, was given the assignment of picking up a secondary hydrant and placing their blitz fire in service. April 29th, 2011 This morning crews from stations 50 ( Middletown), 69 (Lima), and 54 ( Lenni Heights), and Medics/EMTs from Riddle Hospital, in cooperation with Penncrest High School, performed the anual mock crash. The purpose was to show the students a real life example of a severe DUI related accident with entrapment and ejection. The studends were able to witness all that is involved with the rescue and the end results of poor decision making. With the help of student actors from Penncrest High School, and actors from the Media Theatre, we were able to realistically portray an actual accident scene. Students got to witness the dispatch, response, and arrival of fire apparatus to the scene. Along with the actual extrication and removal of deceased classmates from the scene. Middletown Fire Company would also like to thank the Pennsylvania State Police, Media PD, DJ Sound, as well as sponsers State Farm Insurance, and Bryn Mawr Rehab. Engine 69 laid in from the hydrant, and stretched an 1 3/4 handline to the front door. Tele-Squrt 50, under command of 50-9B (Decker), was assigned truck company duties. The Tele-Squrt arrived on location and parked in the neighbors driveway for easier use of the ladder. Crews forced entry to the front door for the hose team, and entered the building for search and ventilation duties. Rescue 72 arrived on location and laid a 2nd supply line from the opposite direction into Tele-Squrt 50. An interior attack was attempted, but do to the large fireload the initial crews switched to a defensive attack. Units operated using masterstream strategies, and mopped up after the fire went under control. Units operated on scene for approximately 5 hours. A special thanks to Tele-Squrt 01, Rescue 41, Ladder 68, and Rescue 40 who covered Station 50's local at different times throughout the fire.
