11 this morning the assignment was dispatched for an accident with entrapment, vehicle in the creek. Due to a steady heavy rain and melting snow Ridley Creek was 5 feet deeper than its normal level and moving at a furious pace. 50-9 arrived to find one occupied vehicle in the creek with one of the passengers in the creek on a log. Company 23 was added for thier water rescue team and 52 was added for thier rescue. First apparatus to arrive was Squad 50. Crews lead off with throw bags and PFD's. It was deemed the girl on the log couldn't hold on for much longer so crews from Squad 50 equipped with PFD's tied off attempted to swim out to the girl. After a few attempts the girl was boosted up further on the log. This enabled her to be able to be brought in by Rescue 51's rope throw bags. Rescue 51 and Co. 65 had the task of hauling the girl up a very steep hill to a waiting ambulance. The mother in the vehicle was reached by Truck 69's crew and a member of Rescue 23's crew. She was assisted to a ladder and walked down Truck 69's aerial device. Strong work to all crews on scene on a very difficult task and enabling everyone to go home to thier families. Also on scene were numerous Police agencies, EMS units from 104 (RMH), 23, 52, and 45.
